Degenerative disk disease occurs when the cushioning in your spine begins to wear away. The condition is most common in older adults. After age 40, most people experience some spinal degeneration.
Spinal disks are rubbery cushions between your vertebrae (bones in your spinal column). They act as shock absorbers and help you move, bend and twist comfortably. Everyone's spinal disks degenerate over time and is a normal part of aging.
When the cushions wear away, the bones can start to rub together. This contact can cause pain and other problems, such as:
- Adult scoliosis, where the spine curves
- Herniated disk, also called a bulged, slipped or ruptured disk
- Spinal stenosis, when the spaces around your spine narrow
- Spondylolisthesis, when vertebrae move in and out of place
Symptoms
The most common symptoms of degenerative disk disease are neck pain and back pain. You may experience pain that:
- Comes and goes, lasting for weeks or months at a time
- Leads to numbness or tingling in your arms or legs
- Radiates down your buttocks and lower back
- Worsens with sitting, bending or lifting
Stem Cell Therapy for Degenerative Disc
Exciting breakthroughs in stem cell research offer promising avenues for managing degenerative disc conditions. Stem cell therapy is now available and can potentially reverse the aging process that affects discs. Stem cells work in two ways: preventing further degeneration and potentially renewing the affected disc. Transplanted stem cells have the remarkable ability to transform into disc cells, regenerating new disc tissue and reversing damage.
Protocol
Direct injection of cord tissue-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells into the affected disc. This minimally invasive procedure takes approximately 45 minutes, with minimal downtime. Patients typically return home just two days following their scheduled appointment.
Treatment Objectives
Our primary goal is to significantly reduce chronic low-grade inflammation for an extended period. Stem cells possess a unique property that draws them to areas of inflammation in the body. Research has demonstrated that stem cells can regenerate damaged or diseased discs, reduce inflammation, and modulate the immune system, promoting better health and an enhanced quality of life. For individuals suffering from back pain, Stem Cell Treatment can lead to a reduction in pain and distressing symptoms, stabilize the condition, and markedly improve their quality of life.
