Breast cancer is a kind of cancer that begins as a growth of cells in% the breast tissue. Breast cells mutate and become cancerous cells that multiply and form tumors. 

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers that affects women and people assigned female at birth (AFAB). It happens when cancerous cells in your breasts multiply and become tumors. About 80% of breast cancer cases are invasive, meaning a tumor may spread from your breast to other areas of your body. 

Breast cancer typically affects women age 50 and older, but it can affect women and people AFAB who are younger than 50. 

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS

• A breast lump or thickened area of skin 
• A flattened nipple or a nipple that is turned inward
• Change in the color of the breast skin. In people with white skin the breast skin may look pink or red. In people with brown and black skin, the breast skin may look darker than the other skin on the chest or it may look red or purple.
• Change in the size, shape or appearance of a breast
• Changes to the skin over the breast, skin that looks dimpled or looks like an orange peel
• Peeling, scaling, crusting or flaking on the skin on the breast

TYPES OF BREAST CANCER 

• INVASIVE (INFILTRATING) DUCTAL CARCINOMA (IDC) - starts in a milk ducts and spreads to nearby breast tissue. It is the most common type of breast cancer.
• LOBULAR BREAST CANCER - starts in a milk-producing glands (lobules) in your breast and often spreads to nearby breast tissue. It is the second most common breast cancer.
• DUCTAL CARCINOMA IN SITU (DCIS) - starts in milk ducts, the difference is DCIS doesn't spread beyond milk ducts.
